Chinchilla Shows & Fur Quality
Chinchilla shows? Yes, there are chinchilla shows! At a chinchilla show, the animal is first groomed and then put into a small show cage. There are two organizations that put on live shows-Empress Chinchilla Breeders Corp. and Mutation Chinchilla Breeders Association (MCBA). Both shows classify the chinchillas by color. MCBA also classifies the chinchillas into male and female; under 7 months and over 7 months; and each color class is divided by color phases (light, med, dark, extra dark, etc.) Each animal is inspected under special show lights that show the true color of the chinchilla. The chinchillas are judged on various points including color, fur strength and density, conformation, and size. Here are some Chinchilla Show Terms The best chinchilla from each class is then compared and the winner and runner up are awarded the title Color Class Champion and Reserve Color Class Champion. This is done for all color classes. At the end, each of the Color Class Champions are judged against each other for the overall Grand Show Champion and Reserve Grand Show Champion. |
